I’m James Callaghan, a dad and an experienced SharePoint & Office 365 Consultant working for Microsoft in London and Reading.
The idea behind this site is to provide me with a place to write about and share my day-to-day experiences of working as a consultant with SharePoint, Office 365 and other technologies alongside the odd recipe or two, my home brewing adventures and life’s other activities.
This is (ahem) “Where SharePoint & Office 365 meets James”…
About James Callaghan
I have many interests and hobbies aside from working with SharePoint & Office 365 and being a technical evangelist that I try to fit in on top fulfilling my duties as a father to my daughter Florence and spoiling my partner Catherine. There’s squash, cycling, horse riding, home brewing, reading and travelling – to name a few…
But on the quiet I’m a bit of a would be amateur chef – I just love to spend lots of time relaxing in the kitchen, cooking all kinds of weird and wonderful, but as Catherine (usually) confirms…ultimately delicious food. Try searching for my “SharePoint Brownies”.
I also really enjoy photography but by no means am I nor will I ever be an expert – I leave that to Steve Burton @ SmartPicsUK. However over the years I’ve snapped thousands of pictures and the result is that I have a few hundred or so fantastic and beautiful pictures of my partner and daughter, stunning landscape pictures and pictures of my cooking and home brewing to accompany my recipes and journal.
Charity & Volunteering
Growing up, I have been an avid supporter of the RNLI. For more than ten years my brother has volunteered for the RNLI and long ago progressed to become one of the helms of Southwold Lifeboat, which makes me very proud.
I must not forget to mention a charity that I’ve personally supported for some time, which I’m incredibly honoured to have been part of, St John Ambulance. I joined a Cambridgeshire division back in 2010 where I became a first aider and a Cycle Responder. Sadly since moving to London, I wasn’t able to devote sufficient time to the service and have reluctantly had to stop regular duties.
Experience & Background
It would be a shame not to include a little self-promotion… I have acquired a deep breadth of knowledge in SharePoint, Yammer, Office 365, PowerShell and Microsoft Azure technologies. I’ve designed and implemented large scale deployments of SharePoint including underlying technologies both on-premises and in the cloud for public and private sector customers. I have witnessed the product mature and develop from the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 version to today’s current version SharePoint 2013.
My skills across these technologies are in-demand and I usually find myself performing: support, administration, network & infrastructure management, business analysis, gathering business requirements – producing detailed information architecture, taxonomy planning and troubleshooting issues. I get great pleasure out of troubleshooting – diagnosing faults and issues, not just with these technologies but in life itself.
Sharing & Community
You’ll find I have already written a lot about these subjects on this blog and will continue to do so. I also try to attend the odd SharePoint User Group meeting including speaking at global events, answering questions or even asking questions on Stack Exchange, on Google+, Twitter or generally contributing to discussions in the Office 365 Technical Network – if you spot me, do say hi if you get the chance!
That’s me in a nutshell and I hope you enjoy this site.
